Their current self regulation does not suffice.
In an ironic twist the ony people who seem to be quoting the law are MPs, who are currently enjoying a media black out.
I am all for media freedom, but that must come with responsibility.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13531392378250799503noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32060070.post-77187777253919884522013-11-07T08:58:44.350+03:002013-11-07T08:58:44.350+03:00The media was labouring under the impression that ...The media was labouring under the impression that its dalliance with the political class would earn it brownie points; how wrong they were. I get appalled by the shallowness of journalists and as rightly put, pursuit of celebrity status - hedonistic if you like. I would like to believe that this is a wake up call - the media has smelt the coffee. But rather than gloat at their misfortune, lets us work towards reforming it (cross ownership, media concentration) while at the same time protecting the provisions of the constitution. Yesterday it was the media, today the civil society, who will be next...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32060070.post-54250246424745410742013-11-06T18:13:50.816+03:002013-11-06T18:13:50.816+03:00I shuddered when Uhuru stole the election. Thank you sir.

As much as we're enjoying watching the media get hysterical, throwing them to the wolves will harm us as much as it does them. We need a free press, as you rightly point out, what we really need is an even freer press, one that's willing to ask hard questions, and maybe even investigate something once in a while. I hate that I have to support the people who lie to me daily, but there's no other choice, is there? What effect does this have on the editorial policies and the public's access to information? We must also consider the effect of big budget advertisers, including the government'. Look at the KICA amendment bill 2009, the media fought it based on the statement I have quoted above, the fight for total self regulation is not acceptable and the media must agree to some form of regulation. I agree with the above statement but the media will not so what gives?Wacekehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01904815520859320001noreply@blogger.com
